Club History

Kempston Rovers Colts was formed in 1977 by Ian Cole and

Roy Saunders who entered one team into the Bedford

Colts League at Under 14. Over the last 43 years the club

has gradually grown to enter 34 teams, boys, girls

and Ladies, into local leagues for the 2019/20 season

and  now has it’s base in Hillgrounds Road as part of

AFC Kempston – a Charter Standard Community Club

– with 38 teams playing football!

In 2000 Kempston Community Soccer Coaching was formed out of a more informal “Soccer School” run by Colts volunteers – it encourages learning football through fun and informative sessions, with FA quali;ed coaches, throughout the year (term time only) from the age of 4 upwards and is the pre-cursor to Colts teams but also provides links with other local clubs.

The summer of 2000 saw Kempston Rovers, Town and Colts officially join forces as part of a bid to improve the football facilities for football both locally and for the wider community. AFC Kempston now gives players of all gender and abilities to participate in football activities from the age

of 4 to 54.

To mark the merger of the three clubs at the start of the 2007/2008

season all teams adopted the Rovers strip of Red and White Stripe

shirts, Rovers being the Senior club in the partnership having a history

going back over 100 years.

The girls section of the club was formed in 2004/05 with 2 teams and has grown in strength year on year. The girls section renamed themselves Kemspton Rovers Girls & Ladies in 2014 and one of our U16 players at the time designed the new badge of which we are very proud as the ‘K’ turned sideways is a female player.

The youth section of the club was renamed Kempston Rovers Colts in 2014 and proudly provide access to Saturday and Sunday grassroots football for our local community across a range of leagues.

We believe that Football is for everyone. Our club philosophy ensures everyone who participates has a great experience – regardless of gender, ethnicity, ability, disability or faith. Our goals are to;

  • To Deliver age-appropriate coaching to support long-term player development, engagement and enjoyment.
  • To encourage all players to try their best and make the most of their abilities.
  • To promote good behaviour and respect for others.
  • To provide a holistic approach to coaching based on the FA’s four-corner model.
  • To make the game safe, fair and enjoyable.
  • To work with players, parents and spectators to create a positive, safe, friendly Learning Environment whatever your role in football
